The street front along the street Sady Pětatřicátníků with the Great Synagogue of Plzen on the right. On the left you see a small church used as the forum Karel Farský. The Synagogue is the second largest in europe (the largest being in Budapest) and was designed by Emmanuel Klotz and finnished in 1893. The distinctive style is combining Romanesque and neo-Renaissance styles, combined with Russian style onion domes, Oriental decorations and a giant Star of David.
Plzen is the fourth largest czech city and here the Pilsner Beer was invented in the 19th century. In 2015 Plzen is a European Capital of Culture. This image was taken on the 31st of december in 2014, just hours before the celebration year began. We photographed three more blocks to the left on Klatovska street to be edited later.
This panorama was presented in week 1 of our 101 weeks 101 cities of europe project.
