The University of Pécs (Pécsi Tudományegyetem) is the oldest existing university in Hungary and had been established by Louis I. of Hungary in 1367. It was discontinued during the Ottoman occupation and after several new starts for an Academy in Pecs during the 18th and 19th century the modern University of Pecs was founded in 1912 (then in Podzsony/Preßburg) and moved into the city in 1921 when Pozsony was cut off Hungary (to become Bratislava). The University has ten faculties today and the main building pictured above is home to the Faculty of Business and Economics, (Közgazdaságtudományi Kar) founded in 1970.
This university building streetview panorama of Pécs was presented in week 22 of our 101 weeks 101 cities of europe project, together with more streetline views of Pecs.
