There were also international cities mentioned on german stamps. Mainly in regard to Olympic Games. Amongst the top 12 cities only Paris, Prague and Warsaw were no olympic hosts since 1949:

Of course there were other reasons as well – EXPO fairs, international treaties and conferences, economic ties, archeological excavations (Mussawwarat in Sudan), however quite seldom those stamps were about monuments or buildings – these subjects were more exclusive to german cities. One main subject that got repeatedly mentioned on stamps and often referred to germany’s neighbouring countries was, once again, concentration camps. As those were not only operated in Germany, but also on conquered territory and Germany later lost lots of its territority, many of those are located in Poland, Austria, in the baltic countries, but also in the Netherlands for example.

As an interesting supplement here are also top 10s for countries with most cities on german stamps and most german stamps in total. Not surprisingly, not considering the olympic host cities, most mentions refer to neighbouring countries like France, Poland, Austria, Czechia, Netherlands or Switzerland. However Russia got most stamps in total, clearly a consequence of the close ties of the GDR to the Soviet Union.
