Here we have a streetview of the northern front of the Dorotheen Quarter along Dorotheenstrasse including the Stuttgart Market Hall at the right edge of the panorama. The quarter was developed by Stuttgart based fashion company Breuninger and designed by Stuttgart based architects Behnisch. Following a construction period of three years it was opened in may 2017 and fills an empty space in Stuttgarts’ centre. The quarter is inhabited mainly by luxury shops plus offices and urban flats (see Website).
Dorotheenstrasse itself was named after Duchess (Herzogin) Friederike Dorothea Sophie von Württemberg, a Princess of Brandenburg-Schwedt (1736-1798). The market hall (Markthalle) Stuttgart was errected in Art Nouveau style 1911 to 1914 after plans of Martin Elsaesser. Its frescoes were created by Franz Heinrich Gref and Gustav Rümelin.
