Here we present a view of a section of the southside of Via XX Settembre in Genoa, also called Via Venti by the Genoese. The street is named after the capture of Rome on the 20th of september in 1870 which finalized the italian unification (Risorgimento). It is a major east-west street from the city centre (at Piazza de Ferrari / Portoria) towards the East and San Vincenzo. The street developed in the late 19th century following partly the former Via Giulia.
The street is crossed by the bridge Ponte Monumentale in its middle, which we can see at the left edge. It is a major shopping and promenading street of the Genoese and lined by representative buildings from the period, especially some of the finest Art Nouveau buildings in the region.
This cityscape panorama of Genoa was presented in week 26 of our 101 weeks 101 cities of europe project. The streetscape is not fully completed yet and can be prolonged for two more blocks up to Piazza de Ferrari on the right side.
