Strumpfstadt Oberlungwitz
The small Saxon town of Oberlungwitz is also known as Strumpfstadt (engl. stocking town) and is known for its former stocking factories. The town stretches almost completely along today’s Hofer Straße, where this factory complex is also located. It consists of the former stocking factory Robert Götze (ROGO-Werke) and the stocking factory Friedrich Tauscher (FTO-Werke). In addition to the two dominant modernism style buildings, the complex includes a number of other manufacturing, administrative, residential and porter’s houses.
Stocking production began already in the 18th century, since then the complex and the stocking production have been constantly expanded and renewed, so that a complete building history of the textile industry in Oberlungwitz can be presented.
