Sprinkenhof is a nine-storey Kontorhaus (old term for office building) and part of the Kontorhausviertel district in Hamburg, hence it is also part of the UNESCO world heritage site of the hanseatic city. Here we see its southern front along Burchardtstrasse. The building occupies a whole block between here and Altstädter Straße plus Johanniswall. It was errected between 1927 and 1943 by the offices of Hans and Oskar Gerson as well as Fritz Höger.
The Sprinkenhof is one of the main examples of Backsteinexpressionismus (brick expressionism), its facade is covered by a rhomb shaped clinker brick pattern. Added to this we find lines of ornaments by Ludwig Kunstmann symbolising trade and handcraft. In the centre of the panorama we also see two large entrances, with two lanes of the Springeltwiete crossing the complex and its central courtyard.
