This panorama depicts the Rue Gabrielle, in the Montmartre district. This district is mostly placed over a hill of the same name, which is the highest point in the inner city (about 130m). This topography yields magnificient views over the city, and maybe it is the reason why it was the artistic center of Paris around 1900. Picasso himself had his atelier on the 49 of this street (it can be seen on the right of the panorama). Today Montmartre is also a favourite tourist destination, in part due to the successfull french movie “Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain“.
