This is the East view of “Plaza de Oriente” (engl: Eastern Square). The building in the middle is the Royal Theatre of Madrid (span. Teatro Real), the main opera house in the spanish capital. The construction of the theatre was started in 1818, when the square was not yet planned. It was not until 1850 that the theatre was finnished, and the medieval buildings that occupied the square where demolished and replaced by a boaroque garden. This is one of the most monumental squares in Madrid, as the Royal Palace is also located on the opposite side of the square.
