The Oudestraat is the main shopping street in the Dutch town of Kampen and runs through the town centre from north to south, parallel to the IJssel river, over a length of around 1,000 metres. Oudestraat can be translated as ‘old street’. In the panorama, we only see a short section of the west side of the street in the southern area. Typical of Dutch towns, the old town centre here is characterised by a variety of gabled houses, some of them in colourful designs in different styles. The side street Geerstraat, which is also characterised by restaurants and shops, crosses in the picture area.
The Oudestraat is home to many of the city’s historic buildings, such as the old Kampen Town Hall, the Nieuwe Toren (New Tower) and the Olde Vleyshuis.
Our archive includes additional sections of the Oudestraat, as well as other streets in Kampen, as raw material for further panoramas. The area to the left of the panorama up to the Buitenkerk is already partially processed and can be added (see detailed images).
