While the UEFA European Championship in summer 2024 invites us into the stadiums of the selected venues, we use our special photographic approach to explore how modern and classic football stadiums characterise our cityscape. For fans, the football arenas of the traditional clubs are often their second living room, while for the casual passer-by they become a striking detail in the urban architecture.
Poststadion, Berlin
Visitors who flock to Leipzig from near and far to attend the matches will have the opportunity to see well-known places of football culture in unkonwn perspectives and value them as a very special part of (urban) building culture! How do the demands on the function of the building combine with the expectation that it should fulfil its outstanding role for identity, tradition and society? This is what the façade of every building stands for. It is atypical to speak of façades in the case of stadiums, but ultimately it is these building fronts, which are visible to passers-by, that usually define their cityscape effect.
Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, Dresden
The exhibition will focus on traditional football venues in Central Germany, supplemented by Bundesliga stadiums and international football arenas. Our large-format stadium portraits will be supplemented by numerous photographic additions, text contributions and the occasional football related memory.
Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund
Some of the portrayed stadiums can already be found in the Stadium/Category of our streetline archive. If you are interested in a print, please get in touch with us.
This exhibition is supported by the City of Leipzig (Sports Department) and is a part of the cultural programme of Host City Leipzig for the UEFA EURO 2024.
