The Medien Kultur Haus (Media Culture House – MKH) is a cultural centre in the city of Wels in Upper Austria. It originated in 2003 by uniting a number of cultural associations with the gallery of the city Wels under one roof. Today, besides the gallery, the Kaiserpanorama (Emperor’s Panorama) and the programm cinema, it is mainly associations in youth and media culture that are active here and organize several cultural festivals and events each year.
The MKH resides inside the old Sparkassen-Building, which was built in 1904 designed by the architects Hermann Helmer & Ferdinand Fellner in late historism style. The tower features a beehive figure, symbolising diligence in a sence fitting the Sparkasse (german version of a savings bank). The building is lying on the corner of the old town on Pollheimerstrasse. On the right the Maria-Theresia-Street leads westwards.
