The stadium in Halle was built in 2011 and is located around 1.5 kilometres south of the city centre in a park surrounded by residential areas. The façade of the main building uses the club symbols of Hallescher FC as a prominent design feature, but is only partially accessible to the public via a car park. The predecessor building was the old Kurt Wabbel Stadium from 1936, whose distinctive outer wall with archways (and workers’ statues) has been preserved and can be seen here in the panorama on the left. This historic archway area characterises the public view of the stadium from Kantstraße – but largely conceals the modern stadium.
The new stadium has already hosted several international matches for the German women’s national team. In 1952, BSG Turbine Halle brought the only championship title (GDR) to Halle in the old Kurt Wabbel Stadium, and the final matches of the GDR FDGB Cup were also played here three times. Before the Second World War, the stadium hosted the final of the German Field Handball Championship several times.
