Our panoramic view shows the southern entrance to the Franconian village of Schäftersheim, which today belongs to Weikersheim.
Klosterhof
The Premonstratensian convent of Schäftersheim existed in the village from the middle of the 12th century until its dissolution in 1543. The old convent buildings were demolished shortly after the dissolution. Today there are successor buildings, which are reminiscent of the convent in their square arrangement and are known as the Klosterhof (Monastery courtyard). The Klosterhof 6/7 visible here is the south-west wing of the former monastery and was probably built in the 20/30s of the 20th century as a two-storey building with a hipped roof.
Historically, the southern end of the village to Weikersheim ran along or through the monastery. Maps from the 19th century indicate that even then the end of the village ran through the monastery buildings or possibly gate buildings. The current road opening through the monastery courtyard building dates from the 1960s. The symbolism of the Württemberg wine region and the coats of arms of Schäftersheim and Baden-Württemberg are also recognisable on the building.
