Goliathhaus
Goliathstrasse (Goliath street) is located inside the medieval centre of Ratisbon (german Regensburg, french Ratisbonne). This street front is dominated by the Goliathhaus with its monumental mural depicting the scene “David versus Goliath”. The direct way from the old stone bridge (Steinerne Brücke) of Regensburg into the old town faces this mural, causing a representative effect. The mural was made in 1573 by Melchior Blocksberger, the name Goliathhaus however was already used for an earlier building at this location. The Goliathhaus itself was built in 1260 as a patrician city castle with pinnacles.
Left of it the Steuer’sche Haus, also an old city castle built in 1250/51, is situated. At the left end the Krautermarkt leads towards the Regensburger Dom (Regensburg Cathedral), visible in the back. On the right side we see the Kohlenmarkt (coal market). The medieval old town of Regensburg and Stadtamhof has been awarded UNESCO world heriatage status in 2006.
