The small Saxon town of Glashütte (population just under 7,000) has been connected to the Müglitz Valley Railway since 1890, which links Heidenau in the Elbe Valley with the mountain town of Altenberg in the upper eastern Ore Mountains. Glashütte station became a junction station for trains travelling uphill and downhill on the single-track line.
The current station building was built in 1938. It has since been modernised and converted into the headquarters of the watch manufacturer NOMOS Glashütte. It is thus an example of the contemporary conversion of station buildings that are no longer in use.
