This street panorama shows two of the three blocks of the Friedrichstadt Passagen in Berlin Mitte. At the end of the GDR regime plans to build here were already in realization, but the fall of the wall also made the shell constructions that already existed fall. Instead three completely new developed blocks were erected between 1992 and 1995, the Quartiere 205-207. In this panorama we see the Quartier 207 on the left, built by the french man Jean Nouvel, and the Quartier 206 on the right built by the New York based architects Pei, Cobb, Freed & Partner, which is especially impressive in evening light with its flamboyant illumination. On the far right we see the subsequent Quartier 205. All three blocks are connected by a passageway underground. Quartier 206 is inhabited by famous fashion shops as well as an exclusive departmentstore. Quartier 207 is home to Berlin’s Galeries Lafayette. The streets that cross here are from left to right the Französische Strasse (French Street), the Jaegerstrasse and the Taubenstrasse. Right behind these blocks the Gendarmenmarkt can be found.
